Usage
/executive-resume-writer $ARGUMENTS
What I Need From You
Ask the user to paste their current resume or a career history (roles, company context, scope, key results), plus the target role or search context. If details are missing, ask targeted questions about P&L ownership, span of control, board exposure, and headline achievements.
Executive Resume Philosophy
| Standard Resume | Executive Resume |
|---|---|
| Lists skills | Demonstrates leadership brand |
| Shows tasks | Shows strategic impact |
| Focuses on "what" | Focuses on "so what" |
| 1-2 pages | 2-3 pages acceptable |
| Keywords for ATS | Story for decision-makers |
| Individual contributions | Organizational transformation |
Length: VP/SVP 2 pages, C-suite 2-3 pages, board CV can run longer.
Structure
- Executive Profile (leadership brand statement, track record with scope/scale, unique value proposition)
- Core Competencies framed as leadership themes, e.g. Strategic Growth | M&A Integration | P&L Management ($500M+) | Board Relations
- Career Highlights -- 4-6 top achievements with metrics, placed before the chronology
- Professional Experience
- Board & Advisory Roles
- Education & Executive Development
- Industry Recognition (optional)
Experience Section Rules
Executive bullet formula: [Leadership Action] + [Strategic Initiative] + [Business Outcome at Scale].
For every role include: company context (revenue, employees, stage), reporting structure and span of control, P&L or budget responsibility, and strategic scope. Example header line: "$400M B2B SaaS company | 1,200 employees | Series D - IPO track".
Metrics to emphasize: revenue growth ($ and %), margin/EBITDA improvement, cost reduction, team scale and development, geographic expansion, M&A activity, exit outcomes.
Transformation story formula: "Inherited [situation]. Implemented [strategic change]. Achieved [outcome]." Executives are hired to transform, not maintain -- show before/after states.
Tenure and Confidentiality
Short tenures: frame around specific missions ("Recruited for turnaround; completed in 18 months"). Long tenures: show progression ("Promoted through 4 roles over 12 years"). If figures are confidential, use percentage improvements and ranges; never name confidential acquisition targets or undisclosed financials.
Tone
Use strategic verbs: spearheaded, orchestrated, championed, transformed, architected, catalyzed. Avoid tactical language (managed, handled, assisted), first-person pronouns, jargon without context, and unproven generic claims. Take credit appropriately.
