How the Earnings Trade Analyzer skill works
Earnings Trade Analyzer
Framing: This grades the market reaction to an earnings report as a momentum setup -- it does not judge whether the business is good. That is a different skill (earnings-analysis). Score only from real figures; do not guess prices or volumes. This is analysis, not advice.
Quick start
Gather the five inputs for the stock: the earnings gap %, the 20-day pre-earnings trend, the recent volume vs its ~60-day average, and the current price relative to the 200-day and 50-day moving averages. If the user did not supply a figure, ask -- or, for a live price, use the stock quote grounding tool rather than inventing a number.
The 5 factors
Score each factor on its own merits, then combine. Higher is stronger momentum:
- Gap size -- a decisive up-gap on the earnings reaction scores higher than a muted or down move. Note the direction and magnitude.
- Pre-earnings trend -- a stock already trending up into the print (constructive base) beats one gapping out of a downtrend.
- Volume trend -- reaction-day and follow-through volume well above the ~60-day average signals institutional participation.
- Price vs 200-day MA -- above and rising is the healthy longer-term backdrop.
- Price vs 50-day MA -- above the 50-day confirms the intermediate uptrend is intact.
Grade it
Combine into a 0-100 composite (weight the factors sensibly; state the weights you used) and map to a letter grade -- roughly A (85+), B (70-84), C (55-69), D (<55). Then present, per name: composite score and grade, each factor's contribution, and the weakest and strongest components so the user sees why the grade landed where it did. Grade A/B are the actionable momentum setups; C/D are watch-or-pass.
Guardrails
- Reaction, not fundamentals. Whether earnings were "good" is earnings-analysis; this scores the tradeable momentum.
- Real figures only. Use provided numbers or a live quote; never fabricate gaps, volumes, or MA positions.
- Not advice. A momentum grade under a stated model, not a recommendation to trade.
